The 3 M.L's, 500, 511, 513, shown above and the 2 below, No's. 516 & 518, are "Rescue Launches", as shown by the "R" prefix to their pennant No's. They were standard "Fairmile "B's" with the addition of a 4 stretcher "Sick Bay" abaft the engine room coaming.

M.L's.1387, seen above right at a recent "Navy Days", 1406, below left, and 3515, further down this page, are examples of the 68ft "Harbour Defence Motor Launches."
M.L. 1387, which is now privately owned, was previously operated as a "Survey Launch" by the RN. Hydrographer as HMS Medusa and, before that, she was used as a "Left Hand Marker" for the U.S. troops going ashore at "Omaha Beach" in June 1944.
