The photo of ML 303 above courtesy of Mr. Craig Smith. She is seen here on "D-Day" off "Gold Beach". Craigs father was a signalman on her at the time and, if the photo is "clicked on" to enlarge, the signal light can be seen to be in use, probably by his father.

The 3 M.L's, 500, 511, 513, shown above and the 2 below, No's. 516 & 518, are "Rescue Launches", as shown by the "R" prefix to their pennant No's. They were standard "Fairmile "B's" with the addition of a 4 stretcher "Sick Bay" abaft the engine room coaming.

M.L's.1383, seen in company with "Captains Class Frigate HMS Curzon, and ML 1387, seen above right at a recent "Navy Days", 1406, below left, and 3515, further down this page, are examples of the 68ft "Harbour Defence Motor Launches."
M.L's. 1383, and 1387, which is now privately owned, were part of the 149th ML Flotilla and were used as "Right and Left Hand markers" for the U.S. troops going ashore at "Omaha Beach" on June 6th 1944.
ML 1387 was later operated as a "Survey Launch" by the RN. Hydrographer as HMS Medusa before passing into private hands.
